Responsibilities:
- Researching and writing articles covering a diverse range of local events, news stories, and community issues four (4) times per year for quarterly publication.
- Conducting interviews with community members, local officials, and other relevant sources.
- Collaborating with the HSN team and contributing writers to pitch story ideas and develop content that aligns with the newspaper's editorial vision.
- Adhering to deadlines and producing high-quality, error-free copy for publication.
- Engaging with readers and soliciting feedback to ensure our coverage remains relevant and impactful.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- A passion for storytelling and a genuine interest in journalism and our local community.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Strong research skills and the ability to conduct interviews effectively.
- Previous experience in journalism or writing for a publication preferred, but not required. Journalism students are also encouraged to apply.
- Familiarity with collaborative use of Google Workspace or willingness to learn.
- Must be a Hāna resident.
- Knowledge of ‘oleo Hawai'i is a plus but not required.
