November of 2018, Alexander & Baldwin sold 56,000 acres of agricultural land on Maui to Mahi Pono for $262 million. Mahi Pono, means “to farm or cultivate morally and properly” and is a farming venture between Pomona Farming, LLC, a Californiabased agricultural group, and PSP Investments of Canada.
Mahi Pono plans to develop a diverse range of agricultural operations and is committed to sustainable farming and collaborative community partnerships with local farmers. They are focusing on the production of high-quality, non-GMO crops for local consumption, with a possible potential for export, as well as creating employment for Maui residents.
